WildStar, the NCSOFT MMO that released last year, officially goes free to play today (09/29/2015.) For those unfamiliar with the game, WildStar is a Massively Multiplayer Online RPG (MMORPG) that came out last year to minimal success. I played for a few months before moving on to other bigger games, but I always remembered my time fondly with WildStar. If you would have asked me a month ago if you should pay to play this game, I would have said no. With the change to free to play for all players new and old, this comes as a resounding yes. Wildstar is a well polished game with a fun story of the Dominion (evil-ish, power hungry group) taking on the Exiles (scrappy, some would say hillbilly-esque freedom fighters.) With the change to free to play comes some improvements to the game as well that was documented on the official WildStar page. Most notably is the addition of a currency system to buy in game items. A subscription still exists for the game, titled: Signature, which will allow you to create more auction house bids, get bonus to crafting, and other such in game bonuses. This is pretty standard fare for an MMO these days though, so don’t worry if you don’t want to buy a subscription – you’ll apparently be able to play everything without one.
As soon as I get off work today I plan on logging back into my WildStar account and checking it out. If you’re still on the fence, watch the new f2p release trailer below and I’ll see you on Nexus.
